Tackling streetlights: 5 562 more requests fixed between 11 and 24 September

03 October 2024

Between 11 and 24 September 2024 more progress was made with fixing streetlight-related requests with 5 562 requests attended to over 14 days. This is part of the City’s continued streetlight fixing intervention to enhance turnaround times, especially amid the high levels of theft, vandalism and illegal connections impacting streetlights.

'Of the more than 5 500 streetlight-related matters we attended to, in Area South our dedicated teams fixed 2 722 requests, in Area North we tackled 1 280 notifications and completed 1 534 streetlight-related requests in Area East. The City manages more than 245 000 streetlights and I will continue to visit projects across the metro to inspect the work our teams are doing as we move forward in implementing a wide range of interventions to improve service delivery.

'We are still faced with huge levels of vandalism, theft and illegal connections. Our desire is to create safer and brighter communities and only by working together will we be able to achieve the material change that we want to see. I urge our residents to join us. Let's ACT: Protect Your Power and report suspicious behaviour anonymously to the City's Public Emergency Communication Centre on 021 480 7700,' said the City's Mayoral Committee Member for energy, Alderman Xanthea Limberg.

*Note: the data looks at all streetlight-related service requests closed over a particular two-week period. Data is dynamic and new requests are constantly added to the already logged requests, as well as historic service requests. The data looks only at streetlight-related requests and does not include other energy service requests attended to over the period in review.
